This month discover: Singapore

Affectionately known as the Lion City, Singapore is a modern metropolis famed for its dramatic skyline, shopping and of course, food.

A cultural hot pot of Chinese, Malay and Indian influences, the city has developed its own unique flavours as well as preserving the traditional dishes of its citizens. Eating could be considered a national pastime, with conversations often beginning and ending on dining recommendations.

The food courts that cover the city are the perfect places to widen your palette or get your favourite fix. Alternatively, if you’re looking for a more relaxed dining experience then take advantage of your Accor Plus membership and check out our wide range of hotel restaurants to enjoy these flavours with a touch of finesse

If dining is the national past-time then shopping is the national obsession. A stroll down the famous Orchard road will attest to that as endless, glitzy storefronts all vie for your attention. July sees the best of both worlds combine with two key events. The Great Singapore Sale runs from 21st June to 28th July and features shops up and down the country all pulling out all the stops. At the same time, the 26th edition of the Singapore Food Festival celebrates the Island’s varied hawker culture, running from 12th – 28th July.

Weather-wise, the city-state experiences consistently hot and humid weather throughout the year. Rainfall is defined by monsoon seasonality with November- February typically being the wettest months. That said, short-duration thunderstorms are a common occurrence, particularly in the afternoon.
